Enovation supported Aer Lingus in the design and development of its pilot training platform to replace traditional classroom learning. Thanks to Moodle, Aer Lingus pilots can be easily trained on the latest airline regulations, wherever they are, while reducing the airline’s training costs.
Aer Lingus pilots’ training courses include flight simulator training and training on flight procedures and operations. Previously, the majority of the teaching program was face-to-face with 10 pilots per class. All 500 pilots must be trained each year to maintain flight status in accordance with European regulations.
Aer Lingus has researched a number of learning management systems from other vendors, but found that proprietary software were not as flexible as Open Source solutions. By choosing Moodle, the world’s most popular OpenSource LMS, Aer Lingus had the opportunity to customize the platform to meet their specific needs. The reporting feature of Moodle also offered Aer Lingus the ability to report user activity to comply with the relevant authorities. Other requirements included security and the ability to provide third-party plugins.
As an official partner of Moodle, Enovation took on the role of consultant in this project. The initial phase of the project involved organizing workshops with Aer Lingus stakeholders to jointly determine the modules to be deployed in Moodle.
Therefore, Enovation provided the following services to meet Aer Lingus technical requirements:
Enovation host Aer Lingus solution securely.
Enovation provided hands-on training to all Aer Lingus administrative staff.
In order to comply with industry regulations, Aer Lingus must produce a report to show that users view and perform all tasks within Moodle. In this context, Enovation has integrated the third-party reporting solution, Jaspersoft, with Moodle to allow administrators to control user activity.
Enovation has customized Moodle so that the platform respects the visual identity of the Aer Lingus brand.
The instant local technical support, with reporting, was crucial for Aer Lingus.
Enovation worked with Aer Lingus to transform its original course content into high quality courses.
Enovation met all our requirements. Moodle was welcome by the pilots and reduced our training costs. The project was a great success.
After the establishment of a pilot project that has won the flight instructors approval, Enovation launched the Aer Lingus eLearning site which allowed the commanders to adhere to the Europeans flight regulations.
